Voices in Action is coming to Sydney in 2017

With much excitement, we are delighted to announce that CREATE’s highly anticipated 2017 Conference will be held at the newly built International Convention Centre in the heart of Sydney from the 10th to 12th August 2017. The theme for the conference is Voices in Action: empowering young people for positive change, which actively seeks to utilise children and young people’s voices to help change the care system for the better.

The overall purpose of Voices in Action: empowering young people for positive change is to provide an international forum for young people with a care experience to learn and grow, build self-confidence, and to connect with their peers and those working within the system. The collective aim is to enhance community awareness and to reduce the stigma associated with children and young people with a care experience and to provide them with an avenue to feel empowered, informed, and to have a say and be heard.

The Conference is an opportunity for children and young people to have a say in the system designed to protect and support them, and engage with key decision makers in child protection. The Conference is open to all children and young people with a care experience in Australia and is also be open to and appealing to carers, government officials and those working in the sector. Make sure you save the date, registration details will be provided shortly.

Proudly hosted by CREATE Foundation, the national consumer body representing the voices of children and young people in out-of-home care. CREATE provides programs and services to create a better life for children and young people with a statutory care experience.

Call for Abstracts

CREATE’s Conferences are unique, engaging, informative and fun! This year we are calling for presentations that focus on our key theme, Voices in Action: empowering young people for positive change, and are able to engage, connect or interact with the broad audience of attendees. We believe that presenting at a CREATE Conference should be a rewarding for everyone and we encourage innovation and creativity within the methods of presentation.

We invite presenters to submit their abstracts that showcase where children and young people’s voices are actively used to change things for the better.  CREATE is looking forward to receiving presentations that highlight children and young people’s participation in decision making, positive change and empowerment.  This can be from a practice, academic or lived experience – thinking outside the box is encouraged!

At this Conference, we are encouraging young people with a care experience to develop presentations to share with everyone.  We will ensure a supportive environment and can assist you in developing this proposal.  Please contact your local CREATE team if you are interested in this opportunity.

Our Conference is all about creating positive change to improve the lives of children and young people in care, and we are looking forward to hearing what you have to share about this important topic.
