ANNOUNCING: CREATE SA WINNERS OF VOICE OF CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE AWARD!

The 2022 South Australian Child Protection Week Award category “Voice of young people” was recently awarded to Fabian McPhee, CREATE SA Community Facilitator.

Since 2015, Fabian has been dedicated to support amplifying the voices of South Australia’s children and young people with a care experience, within the child protection sector.

CREATE’s Chief Executive Officer, Ms Jacqui Reed shared that the team are extremely proud of Fabian’s contribution as both a team member, and his commitment to working with young people to elevate their perspectives to make positive change and in turn, impact the lives of future generations.

“Fabian has been a valuable member of the team and plays an important role in drawing together children and young people’s views and facilitating meaningful interaction with the CREATE team and decision makers,” said Ms Reed.

Fabian has always been motivated in his efforts by always knowing he wanted to help people, even before joining the Child Protection sector. When asked about receiving the award, Fabian responded: “I am humbled, excited and over the Moon. I didn’t realise we were reaching as far as we are with what we do and that matters.”

“I’m so excited to see what the future brings with CREATE and how we find new & exciting ways to hear the voices of Children & Young People. This award tells me and CREATE Foundation we are listening and we do our best to follow through to amplify the voices of children and young people in care. Thanks to CREATE for what they do and allowing me to be me.”

Through his work with CREATE, Fabian has supported young people through participating in CREATE’s Youth Advisory Group meetings, and in consultations with Child Protection sector decision makers. These important events are a first and foremost, social events that connect the children and young people with a shared lived experience in care, while supporting young people to also develop skills in advocating for themselves and others. With these skills, young people are able to contribute make the positive difference for tomorrow’s young people in care.

CREATE Foundation is the national consumer body representing the voices of children and young people with an out-of-home care experience (including kinship care, foster care and residential care). CREATE develops policy and research to report on and advocate for a better care system.
