Name: Claudine Scalzi
Position: SA State Coordinator
What does your position entail? As State Coordinator I have many different roles but my favourite is getting to meet inspiring young people and advocating for their voices to be heard!
What have been the highlights of your time with CREATE so far? CREATE’s national conference, Strength to Strength 2013, in Canberra.
What do you like most about working at CREATE? I’m having an awesome time working with the CREATE team here in Adelaide. I am LOVING my role with CREATE because I get to meet lots of strong, creative, and amazing young people! I think that the best thing CREATE does is get young people in front of key decision makers about the care system – what better way for them to learn about what life is like for a young person in care.
What would you say to a potential applicant thinking about applying for a position with CREATE? Get on Board! Help CREATE a better life for children and young people in care.
Name: Beth Webster
Position: Community Facilitator
What does your position entail? I deliver CREATE Your Future workshops in Western Australia. I run workshops, camps and so many other things! There’s a lot happening in the WA office and we all work towards the goal of creating a better life for children and young people in care. This means I also get to help out at other state events, engage with the out-of-home care sector, the wider community and support our Young Consultants to get involved with our advocacy work.
What have been the highlights of your time with CREATE so far? Gosh, this is hard! I recently went up to Kalbarri with one of our wonderful Young Consultants to present at a district conference. There is so much variety at CREATE, the highlight reel is long! I have found myself scaling rock climbing walls, going on water slides, face painting, helping to cook mounds of sausage sizzles, presenting at team meetings and conferences, representing CREATE at industry events, cuddling zoo animals, surfing and jumping on bouncy castles – just to name a few things! I have also had the opportunity to travel regionally in WA and interstate to support other state activities.
What do you like most about working at CREATE? Working alongside young people and actually seeing the importance of the work we do at CREATE. We have fun doing it and the work we do really does change the lives of children in young people in care for the better. I also love the variety that the role brings – there is always something to look forward to!
What would you say to a potential applicant thinking about applying for a position with CREATE? CREATE offers a creative and fun workplace with a meaningful mission. It is an ideal place for someone who is committed to giving children and young people a voice and supporting them to reach their full potential.
